News and Events

Lorenzo and Johanna went to Boston to Visit the Harvard/MIT Club in September for a week to visit the Vazrik Sensei, Cassiano and his crew. They came to us in April and now we went to see them. Apart from the Harvard, MIT, Boston University and Cornell Students, we were also joined by nearly 30 students from Japanese Universities like Osaka and Tokyo and a few board members from the Japanese University Karate Federation. 

We started our stay with an amazing tour of the Massachusetts State house on this very hot day. An impressive building with loads of history. Interesting to see that Oxford is also a place in New England. 

We had the honour to visit the Consulate General of Japan in Boston and to listen to two presentations by an employee and even the consul general himself! The only downside: The presentations were in Japanese and we did not catch 100 % of it :D 

We also had the honour to personally hand the consul general a present from the Oxford University - a nice little OU pin. 

Our morning of day 2 at the Broad Institute included some interesting talks, a very fun group game to out together a survival team after a zombie apocalypse and a tour of the building before going to MIT for an outdoor training session followed by some sailing and a dinner party.

We used the very foggy day 4 to go to Plymouth and visit the Mayflower II. Very limited visibility, high temperatures but a load of fun and good food (we got to have lobster afterwards!). On the way back, we also got a tour of the Wellesley Women's College. 

On the last day before going back to the airport, we wanted to use the last few hours and visited the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. It was very interesting and we saw some amazing art! During a goodbye lunch with Cassiano and Vazrik, we started to plan for the next meeting: They are going to visit us again next year in Spring! The visits to Boston and Japan and students from there visiting us, will be part of the future plans for the club.
